Air Conditioning

Office Airconditioning

Air conditioning is an ideal way of controlling the air quality inside any building, large or small. Not only does it cool in the summer months but air conditioning can also heat, replacing traditional heating systems. More and more people today are experiencing the benefits of comfortable working, living and leisure environments made possible with air conditioning.

Offices today are packed full of computers, printers, photocopiers and other electrical equipment, all of which generate a great deal of heat. Combined with increased insulation standards and air tightness of modern offices, you have a huge cooling challenge on your hands. Effective climate control is therefore crucial in order to maintain a comfortable environment in which to work.

Scientifically Proven

There is no maximum working temperature laid down by law, but the Health & Safety At Work Act and The Offices, Shops and Railway Premises Act both demand that workplace temperature must be ´reasonable´.

Accepted zone of thermal comfort for UK offices lies between 16ºC and 24ºC World Health Organisation recommends a maximum working temperature of 24ºC.

There is a close correlation between a person's performance and the temperature of his immediate surroundings. An environment that is too hot, too cold or too damp will certainly not contribute to higher working efficiency.

  • 81% find it difficult to concentrate in the office if the temperature is higher than the norm
  • 62% of these admitted that under hot and steamy conditions a typical task may take up to 25% longer than usual to complete

Accidents tend to occur more frequently during extreme temperatures - the optimum temperature appears to be about 20°C. Mental performance and work rhythm drop off sharply when it is too hot. Obviously, the provision of a constant environment is subject to many influences. For a building to operate comfortably and efficiently, due attention must be paid to its services.

A heat pump system can offer both heating and cooling ensuring that the temperature is kept stable with maximum energy efficiency. A site survey will ensure we customise the ideal solution.

Employee Comfort

There is an infinite number of combinations and designs of air conditioning and comfort cooling plant. For everyday applications of comfort cooling, the units described previously are normally satisfactory, however, they are not always the answer.

Large cabinet type systems either distributing air through ductwork or diffusers, or pressurising a raised floor for an IT suite.

The Denco unit in the image to the left is typical of a cabinet type. However, there is a vast range with different applications and designs.
